Classic Tuna Noodle Casserole

Tender egg noodles and tuna in a creamy mushroom based sauce topped with tasty homemade bread crumbs is this delectable Classic Tuna Noodle Casserole recipe.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces egg noodles medium or wide egg noodles
  • 21 ounces cream of mushroom soup 2- 10.5 ounce cans
  • 4 ounces sliced mushrooms, drained 1- 4 ounce can
  • 5 ounces light chunk tuna in water, drained 1- 5 ounce can
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

For bread crumb topping

  • 5 slices sandwich bread we do wheat
  • ½ cup butter melted

Instructions

  • Prepare the egg noodles according to package directions, drain the noodles, and mix the cooked egg noodles with the cream of mushroom soup, sliced mushrooms, tuna, milk, and shredded cheddar cheese. Then spread this mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Next, cube up the bread into any preferred size. You can do smaller cubes like crumbs or large cubes like croutons. Then drizzle the melted butter over the top of the cubed bread and mix to make sure all bread crumbs are coated. Top the casserole with the buttered bread crumbs.
  • Cover the tuna noodle casserole with foil and bake it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Uncover the casserole and bake it for additional 10 minutes. Optional: Broil 2-3 minutes to brown bread crumbs.
