Yum! This tuna noodle casserole is an easy meal idea that’s perfect for feeding a crowd. Think subtle flavors. It’s not overly fishy and the sliced mushrooms and cream of mushrooms don’t overwhelm you. However, the buttered bread crumbs steal the show in this classic casserole. They are little bits of heaven to be savored in every bite.

This meatless casserole is perfect for Fridays during Lent, potlucks, and as warm and delicious comfort food on a cold winter day. Seriously a must-try dish for any night!

How to make Tuna Casserole with Egg Noodles

This easy tuna noodle casserole is pretty simple. Cook your noodles, mix in your canned ingredients, milk, and cheese, and top it with butter-coated bread crumbs. Bake and Enjoy! This is a great recipe for busy cooks everywhere!

Classic Tuna Noodle Casserole Ingredients

  • 16-ounce bag of egg noodles
    • We normally use any wide egg noodles but this time used these Amish made medium egg noodles.. So good!
  • 2- 10.5 ounce cans of cream of mushroom soup
  • 1- 4 ounce can of sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 1- 5 ounce can of chunk light tuna in water, drained
  • A cup of milk
  • 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese

For topping

  • 5 slices of sandwich bread
    • Whatever you have on hand works! We use wheat bread.
  • 1/2 cup(1 stick) of butter, melted
The ingredients to Classic Tuna Noodle Casserole: Egg Noodles, cream of mushroom soup, sliced mushrooms, can tuna in water, shredded cheddar cheese, milk, butter, and bread.

Classic Tuna Noodle Casserole Directions

First, prepare the egg noodles according to package directions, drain the noodles, and mix the cooked egg noodles with the cream of mushroom soup, sliced mushrooms, tuna, milk, and shredded cheddar cheese. Then spread this mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.

  • A pot of cooked egg noodles surrounded by open cans of the other ingredients, milk and cheddar cheese.
  • All the ingredients pour into the stock pot of cooked egg noodles execpt the butter and bread.
  • The egg noodles, cream of mushroom soup, sliced mushrooms, tuna, cheddar cheese, and milk mix together and spread out into a 9x13 in baking dish.

Next, cube up the bread into any preferred size. You can do smaller cubes like crumbs or large cubes like croutons. Then drizzle the melted butter over the top of the cubed bread and mix to make sure all bread crumbs are coated. Top the casserole with the buttered bread crumbs.

Cover the tuna noodle casserole with foil and bake it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Uncover the casserole and bake it for additional 10 minutes. Optional: Broil 2-3 minutes to brown bread crumbs.

Ingredients
