Making Picnic Sliders with Ham and Cheese
The idea is simple, but simple ideas are usually the ones that stick and work! This cold ham and cheese picnic slider recipe isn’t genius, but it works incredibly well and keeps everyone happy. It’s a no-cooking, barely-any-dishes, 4-ingredient meal idea.
Ingredients
These ingredients are a jumping-off point for reference and are what our family enjoys.
- 24 King’s Hawaiian Rolls– party pack
- This recipe feeds a crowd and my family of 7 perfectly for one meal, as each person will want more than one slider.
- 1 pound sliced deli ham
- Or your choice of preferred deli meat. Choose from chicken, turkey, salami, and or old-school bologna.
- 8 ounces sliced cheddar cheese
- Other substitutions would be swiss, provolone, coloby, or mozzarella cheese.
- 1 cup Miracle Whip
- Switch out for a different condiment if desired.
- You can use as much as you wish, but remember that the more condiments you add, the more likely the rolls will become soggy.
Directions
First, slide the rolls out of the bag and gently break down the sides. Then, keeping the rolls on the cardboard, cut them in half with a large bread knife.
Next, evenly spread Miracle Whip to the inside top and bottom of the rolls.
Now, add a sliced cheese layer to the rolls’ bottom layer. Then, top with a couple of layers of cold deli ham.
Finally, place the roll top back on the bottom and cut the rolls into individual sandwiches using a large knife. Reconnect the cardboard sides and slide the prepared sliders back into the original bag. Tie shut and keep chilled until ready to eat. Enjoy!
Storing Cold Ham and Cheese Picnic Sliders
Storing them in the original King’s Rolls packaging has always worked well. They fit perfectly, and there is no need for extra plastic wrap.
For individual packed lunches, wrap the desired number of sliders in foil or plastic wrap.
For best results: Do not make these picnic sliders more than one day in advance.
Keep leftovers cold in a refrigerator for up to three days. The rolls will become soggy over time.
