One can never have too many dirt dessert recipes, and I was intrigued by this dirt dessert that was made with a layer of rich chocolate pudding. How to Make No-Bake Oreo Dessert
This is an easy dessert recipe perfect for the budding chef in your life. You crush the Oreos, cream together a cream cheese layer, make a bit of pudding, and layer! No-Bake Oreo Dessert takes a bit of time for a lot of reward!
Ingredients for Oreo Cookie Dessert with Chocolate Pudding
- 15-ounce package of Oreos
- 15 ounces or more of Oreo cookies. Since I sometimes use off-brand Oreos from Aldi or Chef supermarket, not all the packages of these chocolate sandwich cookies are the same size, the “Family Size Oreos” are usually about the size needed.
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 16 ounces Cool Whip, thawed
- Cool Whip or whipped topping works equally well.
- 5.9-ounce Instant chocolate pudding
- This recipe can also be made with two 3.9-ounce packages of instant chocolate pudding; however, you will need a splash or two extra milk to thin it out before spreading it.
- 2 cups milk
- This milk is used to make the pudding layer. Extra milk might be necessary to thin the pudding if it’s too thick to spread.
Directions for No-Bake Oreo Dessert
Crush your Oreo cookies using a food processor or blender on pulse mode making sure not to break them down completely. Reserve 3/4 cup crushed Oreos for topping. Then, in a 9×13-inch baking dish, mix your melted butter and crushed Oreos and press them into a crust on the bottom of the pan.
Now whisk the instant chocolate pudding and milk together to make the pudding. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to set.
Next, in a mixer, cream together softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and 8 ounces of Cool Whip until smooth. Spread this over the prepared Oreo crust.
Then retrieve the pudding from the refrigerator, stir it once more to break it up, and, if needed, add a splash of milk to thin it out slightly. Spread the chocolate pudding over the cream cheese layer.
Lastly, evenly spread the remaining Cool Whip over the chocolate pudding and sprinkle the Oreo crumbs. Chill until ready to serve and enjoy!
Can you make a No-Bake Oreo Dessert Ahead of time?
I recommend making this a day or two before a party for a stress-free dessert. Making it more than two days ahead of time will risk soggy cookie crumbs and crust.
Can I use homemade whipped cream for a No-Bake Oreo Dessert?
I would not recommend this. Cool Whip holds up better and longer than homemade whipped cream.
