Tender apples, covered in cinnamon, are baked into a fluffy, yet egg-dense, German pancake in this Apple Cinnamon Dutch Baby. Add a sprinkle of powdered sugar or a drizzle of maple syrup for a fun protein-rich alternative to regular pancakes. This is an excellent breakfast for weekend guests, breakfast, or brunch!

What is a Dutch Baby? Dutch Babies are made in oven-ready skillets, puff up high when baked, and then settle again for a fork-manageable cross between a pudding and a pancake. They have a soft, custard-like center with crisp butter-flavored edges. They can then be topped with powdered sugar, syrup, fresh fruits, whipped topping, and any other combination that you would use to top a pancake or crepe. Try out our blueberry compote as a topping for a traditional Dutch Baby. Devine! This Apple Cinnamon Dutch Baby blends the goodness of a traditional Dutch Baby with fall flavors of tender apples and classic cinnamon.

Our family has enjoyed Dutch Babies for warm, hearty breakfasts and brunches in the last couple of years. It’s a great way to incorporate good protein while also keeping it tasty and fun. Keep in mind, Dutch Babies are not known to be overly sweet. They have an eggy flavor overall. The add-ins and toppings are what sweeten this deal. However, this Apple Cinnamon Dutch Baby is a great way to enjoy fall at breakfast, as nothing is better than starting a crisp fall morning with a warm, hearty, semi-sweet breakfast and a cup of coffee.

How to Make an Easy Dutch Baby with Apples and Cinnamon
This Apple Cinnamon Dutch Baby is an excellent recipe for an intermediate baker. It uses cast iron in the oven and a blender and needs a watchful eye. It’s also not overly complex. Plus, it’s super fun to watch the Dutch Baby rise!
Ingredients for an Apple Cinnamon Dutch Baby
- 4 Tablespoons butter, cold and sliced into chunks
- 1 large apple, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- Use a crisp baking apple for Dutch Babies so they don’t break down when baking at high temperatures. We like the Honey Crisp or Pink Lady.
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 Tablespoons maple syrup
- Dash of salt
- 1 cup flour
- additional powdered sugar and/or maple syrup for topping
Start cooking with cast iron today without breaking the bank. We use and love this Lodge 10″ cast iron skillet.

Instructions for an Apple Cinnamon Dutch Baby
First, add the prepared apples, cinnamon, and butter into a 10″ cast-iron pan. Place the pan in a cold oven, then preheat it to 425°F.

Next, add the eggs, milk, vanilla, salt, and maple syrup into a blender. Blend and then add the flour. Blend thoroughly but not long.

Once the oven is completely preheated, remove the apples, quickly stir them with the cinnamon, then pour the batter evenly over the hot apples and butter.

Bake the Dutch Baby for 20 minutes or until it’s golden brown and puffy.
Finally, carefully remove the skillet, cut into slices, and serve warm with powdered sugar and maple syrup. Enjoy!

Storing a Dutch Baby
Store a Dutch Baby in the refrigerator in an air-tight container for up to five days. Reheat in the microwave or oven until heated through.
