This BBQ Little Smokies recipe is precooked mini sausages covered in savory-sweet BBQ, ketchup, brown sugar, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. It is an easy warm appetizer perfect for the holidays, game days, camping trips, and potlucks!

These addictive little smokies in BBQ sauce are more savory flavor with a hint of smoky goodness. They are not as sweet as our 3-ingredient Little Smokies made with grape jelly. However, these BBQ Little Smokies are a nice way to elevate the little smokie appetizer game with simple ingredients.

Little Smokies as an appetizer is all-American. Hillshire Farms and Eckrich made these little sausages very popular in the 1980s, and Americans have been enjoying them ever since. From kids to adults, little smokies have proven to be a likable appetizer enjoyed at parties. They can be eaten fancy on a cocktail toothpick or by the plateful at a low-key BBQ. They are a great on-the-go side dish. And they keep well for hours on warm in the slow cooker. These BBQ little smokies are a versatile appetizer that keeps food fun!

How to Make Slow Cooker BBQ Little Smokies

Since Lit’l Smokies come precooked, they are easy to prepare. Mix the sauce and then warm everything through. BBQ Little Smokies is a beginner appetizer recipe.

Ingredients for BBQ Little Smokies

  • 32 ounces li’l Smokies or Lit’l Smokies
    • The amount of little smokies is flexible. Use anywhere from 28 ounces to 48 ounces of smokies for this recipe. The more smokies, the thinner the sauce.
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
    • We prefer Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce.
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions for Slow Cooker BBQ Little Smokies

First, stir to combine the BBQ sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce in a slow cooker.

Then add the drained little smokies and stir until they are evenly coated.

Finally, cook the smokies on low for 2-3 hours or until heated through, stirring occasionally. Cook on high for 1-2 hours.

Remember, keep them heated in the slow cooker set to warm. Serve and enjoy

Tips and Tricks for the BEST BBQ Little Smokies

Adjust the sauces to taste. For extra sweetness, add brown sugar a tablespoon at a time. Add some chili powder for spice. Add 1 to 2 more tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce for more depth of flavor, if desired.

Once cooked, keep the slow cooker on warm. These bbq little smokies keep well for hours; do not overcook them. Turn your slow cooker to warm once cooked.

Leftovers are great. Serve these little smokies over rice or with mashed potatoes and corn for a quick meal idea.

Stove Top BBQ Lit’l Smokies

Need to speed up the slow cooking? Make BBQ little smokies on the stove by combining the BBQ sauce and grape jelly in a large skillet. Then add in the little smokies. Stir and heat everything through over medium heat, about 5-10 minutes. You can serve them warm immediately or put them in a slow cooker to keep warm for a party.
