These sound delicious. Can I make them with fresh french style green beans? Thanks for all the great recipes.

Thanks! I wouldn’t recommend using french green beans as they might get mushy when cooked. Regular green beans tend to soak in the flavor better as well.

In step 3 it states add drained green beans. Does that mean I need to defrost the frozen green beans that the recipe calls for? Or can use canned green beans?

Yes, you need to thaw and drain off water OR drain can green beans.

Made this for July 4th – it was tasty with a couple of changes. I doubled the recipe, using 48 oz frozen (thawed, drained) whole green beans. I used 1/2 cup EACH ketchup and Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce, as I figured they weren’t really “BBQ green beans” without BBQ sauce/flavor. I browned the onions in a bit of bacon grease. My cookout crowd really liked them and it was good to offer at least one “healthier” option! These are simple to make with minimal prep (I had 3 crock pots going) and I may make these again!I will add some salt next time, as there was a little something missing. Otherwise, thank you for this option!

P.S. I may add a bit of Liquid Smoke next time, that’s what I meant to add to my comment….
