Toasted baguette slices are so good that I often have a hard time keeping them around long enough to pair them with anything. These garlic-infused homemade crackers are a crunchy snack that my whole family loves to nibble on. They make the perfect appetizer cracker and a great crostini topped with your favorite toppings. Or keep it simple and use them on top of a house salad. There are endless opportunities for toasted baguette slices!

We especially like to use these slices in our deconstructed bruschetta recipe. Made from simple, classic ingredients this bruschetta recipe comes alive with these toasted baguette slices.

How to Make Toasted Baguette Slices with Garlic

This easy recipe is foolproof. With only three ingredients and a couple of steps, deliciousness is at your door!

Ingredients

  • 1- 16 ounces French Baguette, sliced to 1/4 inch thickness
    • French baguette work best and toasts up well however, you could use French bread for a fluffier, more solid toasted bread slices. French bread would work good for dipping in a broth-like dip or soup.
    • Keeping at the 1/4 inch thickness, these slices remain bite size without becoming too hard and crunchy.
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • We opt to go with garlic powder because it’s fast, easy, and consistent. However you can also use two cloves of fresh garlic and brush the cloves over the baguette slices after you remove them from the oven.
    • Not a garlic fan? Cut this in half or ommit it completely .
  • 10×15-inch non-stick, rimmed baking sheet
    • A rimmed baking sheet is a must when you are working with a liquid. It helps keep the oil and slices contained and not falling all over the floors.

Directions

First, place the baguette slices on a rimmed, non-stick baking sheet in a single layer.

Next, mix the olive oil and garlic powder in a small bowl. Then taking a pastry brush, brush the oil over each baguette slice. Make sure to stir the oil and garlic powder occasionally as you go to evenly reincorporate the garlic powder.

  • French baguette sliced and placed on a rimmed baking sheet.
  • Baguette slices brushed with an olive oil and garlic powder mixture.

Lastly, bake the baguette slices at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes until you see the baguette slices browned to your preference. Hint: I bake these for the full 20 minutes when I want them to be extra crispy under bruschetta or to use with dips that have a more liquid base. If you are using them as a crostini for a thick dip that doesn’t have a lot of moisture baking the baguette for only 15 minutes would be perfect giving you a slightly toasted bread effect.

Remove from oven, cool, and enjoy!
