Nothing is better than tender warm apples covered in a sweet syrup and topped with a crumble. These apples are peeled, sliced and ready to eat(anytime really) so there’s relatively no work involved! This apple dump cake saves me time, tastes amazing, and makes me feel like a winner on all accounts making this dump cake is perfect for busy people everywhere! Make it for a simple dessert or the next pot luck or carry-in. Add cool whip or ice cream and it’s the total package.

How to make a Simple Dump Cake with Apples and Caramel

In just a few steps we are going to have a scrumptious apple cake or cobbler with minimum effort. I can’t wait! Let’s get started!

First, lightly grease your 9×13 inch baking dish by quickly spraying it with cooking oil. Then empty the two cans of apple pie filling to the pie and spread them around evenly.

A quick tip: Not all brands of pie filling are created equal. I have noticed that the brand name pie fillings have a thicker syrup and better apples which in turn gives us a better dump cake. Now the difference could be lost on some and who doesn’t like to save some money where they can but I think that it’s worth the money to buy brand name. What works best for us is to use one brand name and one off-brand can of pie filling. Make sure to blend the cans when you spread them in the baking dish!

Second, drizzle on the caramel syrup. This is easy and fun and most of the time I just guess the amount so I don’t have to dirty another utensil and who doesn’t love a tad more caramel?

Now we have to make the crumble top. Add the melted butter to the yellow cake and mix with a fork breaking up any large clumps. This is a perfect step for little ones to help out! Then sprinkle this all over the apple pie filling and caramel syrup.

  • The ingredients of the crumble: Yellow cake mix and a stick of butter.
  • The butter and yellow cake mix crumble made in a bowl.
  • The butter and yellow cake mix crumble add to the pan on top of the apple pie filling and caramel syrup.

Lastly, Bake and eat! Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes until the dish is hot, bubbly, and the tops are just browning. Serve warm with a dollop of cool whip or ice cream. Or eat straight from the pan because this apple dump cake becomes addicting fast! Enjoy!
