A layer of cream cheese and sweet cherry pie filling sandwiched between the flaky goodness of crescent rolls all baked up golden brown and delicious is this cherry cream cheese crescent ring recipe.
I grew up loving this cherry cream cheese crescent ring dessert and it’s still the perfect fast and easy brunch dessert! I think it all started from all those famous pampered chef parties we attended in the early 2000s and you know this dessert is darn delicious considering it stuck with me for nearly two decades! This is the perfect dessert if you’re short on time but still want to impress with a simple but elegant presentation. Even our pickiest eaters go back for seconds on this cherry and cream dessert.
How to make a Cherry and Cream Cheese Dessert
Made from premade store-bought crescent dough and pie filling, this dessert comes together fast and feeds a crowd! I can easily make 16 or more servings out of this crescent ring so let’s get baking!
Ingredients for this Cherry Cream Cheese Crescent Ring Recipe
- 2(8oz each) tubes of store bought crescent rolls
- 1 (8oz) block of cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 can(21oz.) cherry pie filling
For Glaze
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 teaspoons milk
Directions
First, we are going to prepare the crescent rolls which is the base of this cherry cream cheese crescent ring.
Unroll the crescent rolls and save 4 triangles back for later. Then arrange the remaining 12 triangles in a circle with the wide end towards the outside of the circle and the pointy end towards the middle. The points will NOT meet in the middle. There should be a 2-3 inch open circle in the middle of the circle. Once all the crescent rolls are arranged gently press the gaps closed by pinching the sides of the dough together with your fingertips.
Then in a medium bowl, using a handheld mixer, whip together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Leaving a 1/2 inch edge around the outside and center of the circle, spread this mixture over the pressed-together crescent ring.
Next, top the cream cheese mixture evenly with the cherry pie filling. Again leaving room on the edge.
Finally, cut the 4 remaining crescent rolls into thirds with a pizza cutter. Cut from the wide end to the point. Then arrange the crescent triangular strips around the circle evenly in a spoke-like fashion pressing the dough ends together to the outside and the center.
Next, bake the cherry and cream cheese crescent ring at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes or until the crescent dough is golden brown. Cool slightly.
Lastly, in a small bowl whisk together with a fork the 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 2-3 teaspoons of milk for the glaze. Then drizzle the glaze onto the cherry cream cheese crescent ring. Cut the ring into 12-16 slices and serve.
Storing Cherry Cream Cheese Cresent Ring
This dessert is best eaten fresh however it will keep for up to 3 days loosely covered at room temperature.
Other Crescent Ring Dessert Options
Don’t have cherry pie filling or not a huge cherry fan? This easy cheesecake dessert can adapt to any flavor! Try using blueberry, strawberry, or raspberry pie filling instead. There’s also apple pie filling but you might need two cans to get enough apples to cover the entire ring.
What if I don’t own a large pizza pan?
The pan I tend to use is this 16-inch pizza pan from Wilton. It is more than enough room but you could use a smaller 12-14 inch pan if needed. Also, don’t be discouraged if you don’t own a pizza pan. I have used a large baking sheet in the past and this cream cheese crescent dessert is still fabulous.
Simply use as many crescent triangles as you can for the base and then use the remaining triangles to do the spokes for the top. You can’t go wrong. I would try to use at least 10 or 11 for the base so you have enough surface area to spread out your cream cheese mixture and pie filling. Then evenly split up the other rolls for the top.
Cherry-Go-Round
My mom used to make this amazing dessert called a cherry-go-round. It was a super similar brunch dessert where cherries were wrapped in sweet roll-like dough, formed into a circle, and with a simple powdered sugar glaze drizzled on top. While that recipe was equally delicious and amazing, my family calls this the cheating version of cherry-go-round. Simple but oh-so-good! Now you know.

Could you make this dessert with lemon pie filling.

I haven’t tried it but I would think so. If it’s is a filling that you would bake in a pie there should not be a problem. Thanks!
