This Easy Cinnamon Sugar Granola recipe uses hearty oats and chopped nuts coated in sweet cinnamon sugar toasted to perfection. Homemade granola tastes great as a quick snack or topped with yogurt and fresh berries for a fast and filling breakfast!
Crunchy, chewy, and delightful, this cinnamon sugar granola is just the right amount of sweetness to curve the cravings for something sweet while also filling you up and keeping you full. This is an excellent option for kids’ snacks as they can easily eat from the palm of their hand. Make snacking fun by using different cups or tiny bowls. All the chewing keeps them busy, and it is better than most store-bought snacks on the market. Take this granola to the park or pool, and enjoy time outside and not worry about, “I’m hungry!”
Adults enjoy cinnamon sugar granola, too! It’s a great on-the-go breakfast option. I LOVE it topped on vanilla yogurt, fresh fruit, or (in the perfect world) both. It’s almost therapeutic eating it and savoring all the flavors and textures, and wildly the perfect way to start the day! Don’t have time for that? I get it. I have to often resort to throwing a couple of handfuls into a snack baggie and munching on the drive to work and/or a kids’ practice. You got to do what you got to do!
The options are endless for other ways to enjoy homemade granola with cinnamon and sugar. It would be great as a healthy ice cream topping! There’s no reason you can’t incorporate more nutritious options for ice cream and enjoy summertime treats while being health-conscious! Also, make it a filling cereal. Add some milk, and enjoy! This granola is bound to taste great!
How to Make Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Granola
This Easy cinnamon sugar granola recipe would be great for a beginner baker. The steps are simple and straightforward. If the baker is not comfortable with the oven or how it heats, the bake times are short enough to stay close and keep a watchful eye.
Ingredients to Homemade Granola for Yogurt
- 3 cups oats
- The oatmeal can be old-fashioned rolled oats or quick oats. This is a pretty forgiving recipe, and both work great!
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts(walnuts, pecans, almonds, cashews)
- We use whatever nuts we have on hand and/or need to use up. We tend to keep pecans frozen in our freezer to use as needed; therefore, they are a go-to for our family. Walnuts would taste great, and cashews are my personal favorite. I like to incorporate nuts wherever I can to sneak in extra-filling proteins and oils. However, if nuts are not your thing, feel free to omit them.
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon coarse sea salt
- 1/3 cup oil (avocado, vegetable, or coconut)
- 1/3 cup honey
- 2 Tablespoons of vanilla extract
- Optional vanilla yogurt and fresh strawberries and blueberries
Equipment Used and Loved
- Glass mixing bowls that nest
- I have used this set for all the years of blogging, and they are holding up great! They are minimalistic but stylish, and I LOVE the smaller sizes. They make every snack fun to eat.
- Measuring cups
- It has a great variety of measurements and will hold up for a lifetime!
- Half Gallon Mason Jars
- I am convinced that little can’t be stored in a mason jar. Mason jars come in all sizes, heat well, and are not full of harmful plastics. If you want to ditch the plastic Tupperware and don’t want to invest a ton in glass storage containers, mason jars are a great start!
- Wide Mouth Lids for Mason Jars
Instructions
First, mix the oats, chopped nuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
Then, combine the honey, oil, and vanilla in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Stir until the honey is completely dissolved into the vanilla and oil. (Stove-top directions: Combine the honey, oil, and vanilla in a small saucepan and heat on medium-high until the honey and oil completely combine.)
Next, pour the warm honey mixture onto the oats, nuts, and sugars and stir until the oats are fully coated in the honey.
Then, pour the prepared oats onto a large-rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread the granola into a thin, even layer.
Bake the granola at 325°F for 10 minutes, then gently stir and bake for another 10 minutes. Watch carefully as the granola bakes to prevent over-toasting and burning the oats.
Finally, once the golden brown granola is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it completely cool. Then, break or crumble the homemade granola into pieces and store it in an airtight container. Enjoy on top of optional vanilla yogurt and fresh berries!
Storing Homemade Granola
Store the cinnamon sugar granola in an air-tight container and out of direct sunlight. It should keep well for up to two weeks.
