Simple and sweet, this Froot Loops Cereal Treats recipe coats one of America’s favorite cereals, Froot Loops, in melted marshmallows, vanilla, and salted butter for a cereal bar that’s fun and satisfying.

Our family adores these easy cereal bars! They are so colorful and fun that you can’t help but try one. And once you do, the sweet marshmallow goodness will win you over. Froot Loop Cereal Treats are delightful treat that’s super kid-friendly! Soon you will be making these for all sorts of family get togethers and backyard BBQs.

Froot Loops and Marshmallow Treats

This recipe mimics our famous Rice Krispies Treats, except Froot Loops are the main ingredient. Froot Loops and melted butter with marshmallows, what’s not to love? Plus, this recipe is easy! It’s a four-ingredient recipe that requires no actual baking for a delicious dessert done in 10 minutes! Perfect for the budding baker at your home!

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Foot Loops
    • Confession time: I grew up on Froot Loops. I loved it as a cereal and even more so as a snack, HOWEVER; the food dyes found in Foot Loops are disheartening. And, since we are trying to go red 40 free, our family chooses to use Aldis’ Fruit Rounds. Maybe not as bright and colorful of a cereal, but better for our health. This is a small sacrifice for our family, and we still get to enjoy this yummy snack!
    • This recipe leaves you with an extra gooey marshmallowy treat, so you can choose to use more cereal with this recipe because Froot Loops have more surface area making it fewer pieces the melted marshmallows have to coat than when doing a smaller cereal like Rice Krispies. 12-15 ounces works, or a cup or two more of cereal.

  • 20 ounces of mini marshmallows
    • This is 2- 10 ounce bags.
  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
The ingredients to froot loops cereal treats: mini marshmallows, butter, vanilla and froot loops or off-brand fruit rounds.

Directions

First, measure out the Foot Loops and put them in a large mixing bowl.

Then, in a large saucepan, melt the butter on low heat. Stir in the vanilla extract once the butter is melted. Then add the mini marshmallows in increments to the butter, continuously stirring them until they melt down. I add one full bag of marshmallows first and then slowly add more as they melt.

  • A stick of butter melting into a large saucepan.
  • Vanilla extract mixed into melted butter in a saucepan.
  • A saucepan with melted butter and just coated mini marshmallows in it.
  • Almost melted marshmallows in a saucepan.
  • Completely smooth melted marshmallows, butter and vanilla in a saucepan.

Once the marshmallows are melted into a smooth mixture, pour them into the Froot Loops cereal and gently stir them until all cereal is coated. Then gently press the treats into a lightly greased 9×13 baking dish with the back of a spatula. These will be more sticky than our regular Rice Krispies Treats, but the extra effort is worth it! (Do NOT firmly press these, or your bars will be dense and hard to eat.) Let them cool for at least 30 minutes. Cut into serving size and Enjoy!

While the taste would be the same if you didn’t cool the cereal bars, these Froot Loop bars keep their shape only if you let them cool completely before cutting them. If you can’t wait to try them, you might just end up with a Froot Loops mess.

Froot Loop Cereal Treats in a Jelly Roll Pan

This Froot Loops Treat recipe will fill up a 9×13 baking dish to the top, so I like to cut my bars on the smaller size, especially if the treats are intended for mostly kids. Another dish option would be to use a 10×17-inch rimmed jelly roll pan. This option is great for parties or when feeding a crowd!
