When salty meets sweet, life is SO, so good! This ultimate Halloween party mix takes yummy white chocolate, Bugles, pretzels, rice Chex, and cheerios to make fun ghost faces, adorable witch hats, and an all-around addicting snack mix. Add in your favorite fall candies too, there’s no wrong way with this party mix!

Ghost faces and witches hats mixed with a seasonal white trash mix make this ultimate Halloween party mix spooktacular. Here it is served in a large bowl ready for guests!

Any ‘white trash’ mix is a favorite of mine(and my family never turns it down). You can eat a bit or a handful, it’s the perfect snack for anytime. It’s completely customizable too! You can easily swap out ingredients for those you have on hand and add only the candies that speak to your inner goblin. Add the fact that it’s fun to make and adorable to present, I love this ultimate Halloween party mix!

How to make a simple Halloween white trash mix

I say white trash mix only because that’s what I called this nostalgic dessert growing up. White is simply because the cereal and pretzels are covered in subtle favor of white chocolate melts or vanilla almond bark. I am an almond bark fan because it’s really easy to work with. Trash just means a random mix of cereals and candies, most of which you can just grab from your pantry on a whim. Sounds crazy that a trash mix can be so good but one mans’ trash is anothers’ treasure, right?

Since we are doing an ultimate mix, we need to make some cute extra candies to throw in at the end. These are simple concepts and if you don’t have time to do them, that’s completely fine and the trash mix is still amazing on its own.

Gather your ingredients

Remember, as a trash mix, you can swap out any cereals and candies for those you and your family prefers.

You will need for this party mix:

  • 24 oz. package white chocolate/vanilla almond bark
  • 6 cups rice Chex or rice squares
  • 3 cups pretzels -divided to make ghost faces
  • 3 cups orginal Bugles -divided to make wtiches hats
  • 2 cups Cheerios
  • A bag of candy corn.- I used half.
  • A bag of your favortie M&M candies. -I used half.
  • A bunch of Halloween sprinkles. You will need one jar of sprinkles to be the tiny little balls for the witches hats.

I really like having a variety of cereals. That way there’s something for everyone and plenty of textures and flavors.

Make the Halloween Ghost Faces

First, take about 8 ounces of chocolate or bark and melt it per instructions on the packaging. Then have 2 cups of twisted pretzels and candy eyes ready. Along with toothpicks for handling and wax paper to put the faces to cool.

  • Vanilla almond bark, twisted pretzels, and candy eyes in prep bowls ready to make Halloween ghost faces.
  • Pretzels laying in and dipped in white chocolate to make ghost faces.

Once the chocolate is melted, put 4-6 pretzels in the bowl with the chocolate. Give that a little stir to coat the pretzels entirely and then fish the pretzels back out. I just looped the toothpick through a hole and transferred it to the wax paper. FYI: I did notice that the hole that you loop through ends up being the open space where the mouth of the ghost forms.

After they are lying on the wax paper, drop the candy eyes on top. Make sure they are facing up before dropping!

Repeat this process, experiment with what works for you, and have fun. My little kids love to help make these ghost faces and the results crack us up!

Make the Halloween Witches Hats

When you have about 1/4 of the melted chocolate left, take the Buggles and dip the open end of the Buggle 1/4 inch into the chocolate and then immediately swirl it in small sprinkles. Then transfers the hats to wax paper to dry.

You might have to reheat the chocolate. I do this in 15-second intervals or less. The less chocolate to melt the less time you will need. You don’t want to burn your chocolate. Also, small sprinkles work best here for sticking purposes, and try and cover all the chocolate to make the brim nice and full. Your sprinkles might start to get clumpy so work in a small bowl and in batches in case you need to throw some sprinkles out to keep the hats looking nice and clean.

Now it is time to use up all the other ingredients!

An overview picture of all the goodies that make Halloween white trash mix.

First, take your rice Chex or squares, Cheerios, and leftover Bugles and pretzels and combine them all in a large bowl. Then lay out a large square of wax paper about 2 feet by 2 feet on the counter for the white trash mix to cool on once made.

Next, take the remaining chocolate or almond bark, put it in a microwave safe bowl, and melt it according to package directions. It’s usually a minute at first and then 20-30 second intervals until the chocolate is melted. Stir well in between each interval. And stop heating once everything is just melted so you do not burn the chocolate.

Once the chocolate is melted, pour it on top of the cereal mixture and stir to coat all the cereal evenly. Transfer the mix immediately to the wax paper and spread it out thin. Sprinkle on your Halloween sprinkles, candy corn, and M&Ms. I only used about half of the bags of candy corn and M&Ms but that’s a preference. Now let the mix harden and set for about 15-20 mins.
