Yum! Just writing about this creamed turkey on toast recipe makes my mouth water. This one-skillet wonder checks all the boxes: vegetables, protein, and super savory. Added bonus: We get to use leftover turkey from holiday meals in a new creative way too!

Maybe it’s the cold settling into my bones, but Creamed Turkey on Toast is a perfect warm meal idea for winter!

Homemade Creamed Turkey on Toast Recipe

This easy creamed turkey over toast recipe incorporates pantry staples and still keep keeps it simple. Don’t let the homemade gravy scare you. This recipe comes together beautifully!

Ingredients for Creamed Turkey with Frozen Vegetables

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 medium onion (about 3/4 cup)
  • 1 celery stick, diced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 cups chicken stock(turkey, chicken or vegetable)
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups cubed or shredded cooked turkey
  • 12-16 ounces frozen vegetables
    • We will often buy a 2lb bag of frozen mixed vegetables and use half for this recipe and half the bag for other family-friendly recipes like Chicken Pot Pie and Hamburger Soup with Frozen Vegetables.

    • Cream Turkey on Toast is amazing with Brioche Bread, but we have also eaten it over plain toasted wheat bread. It also would be delicious on biscuits, rice, or mashed potatoes.
The ingredients to creamed turkey on toast: Milk and chicken stock, cooked turkey, diced onions and celery, butter, seasonings and frozen mixed vegetables.

Directions

First, melt the butter in a skillet on low/medium heat. Then add diced onions and carrots and cook them until tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in the seasonings.

  • Tender diced onions and celery in bubbling melted butter.
  • Add in the salt, pepper, and garlic powder to cooked vegetables.
  • Stirred in seasonings with the tender onions and celery in melted butter.

Next, thoroughly mix in the flour and cook for about 1 minute.

Then mix in the flour thoroughly. Cook for one minute.

Then add the milk and chicken stock and bring to a boil, constantly stirring until the mixture thickens like a gravy.

Add in milk and chicken stock. Then simmer to a thick gravy.

Finally, gently mix the turkey and frozen vegetables and bring it to a simmer until warm and the vegetables are tender for about 5 minutes.

Storing Creamed Turkey on Toast

Keep leftovers of Creamed Turkey on Toast in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. It reheats amazingly well in the microwave or on the stovetop. Then serve the creamed turkey over freshly toasted bread.
