How to Make a Simple Fall Snack Mix
Growing up in the Midwest, this Simple Fall Snack Mix is what I dream up when I think of a Fall Chex Mix. It’s brown sugar and butter-coated cereal and candy. Healthy? No. Fun? 100% Completely customizable? Yes! It’s an easy recipe that requires little prep and some time in the oven. This Simple Fall Snack Mix is a great beginner recipe.
Ingredients
For the Sauce:
- 3/4 cup of butter, melted
- 3/4 cup of light brown sugar, packed
- 2 Tablespoons of vanilla extract
For the Mix:
These ingredients are completely customizable. If you don’t like something, substitute it with one of our suggested substitutions or double another favorite ingredient.
- 12 ounces rice squares(1 box)
- 7 ounces Bugles(1 bag)
- 4 cups mini pretzel twists
- 8 ounces Reese’s Pieces
- 1 cup candy corn
- 1 cup candy pumpkins
Other Optional Fall Chex Mix Add-ins or Substitutions
- Salted popcorn
- Dried Cranberries
- Cheez Its – baked snack cracker
- Cheetos Crunchy
- Nuts
Instructions
First, preheat the oven to 275°F and line two large-rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper. Then add all the rice squares, Bugles, and mini pretzel twists to an extra large bowl and lightly toss.
Second, in a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, light brown sugar, and vanilla extract until the sugar dissolves. Pour the butter mixture over the snack mix and gently stir until well combined and everything is coated.
Now, evenly pour the snack mix onto two large baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Try to spread the mix out so that it’s in a thin layer.
Bake this fall snack mix at 275°F for 30-45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. The mix is done when it starts to brown. Remove it from the oven and let it cool completely. Then, add the mix to a large bowl and add the Reese’s Pieces, candy corn, and candy pumpkins. Toss to combine.
Store this Simple Fall Snack Mix in an airtight container for up to two weeks. Enjoy!
